What are the benefits of NoFap (not masturbating?)

What is NoFap?

The “NoFap” trend all started back in 2011. A Reddit conversation circulated about a guy who read about the benefits of abstaining from ejaculation from seven to ninety days, which expanded and grew in popularity. The NoFap movement is now a fully trademarked website with many different forums and challenges to help you give up or temporarily abstain from self-pleasure.

But NoFap isn’t just about not having a wank, oh no! There are a variety of benefits that fans of NoFap have said to have experienced, from physical, mental to even spiritual improvements. But what exactly are the benefits of NoFap?

What are the Benefits?

The perks of “fapstinence” vary in different people’s experiences, but whether you NoFap for seven days or 90 days, you are supposed to see improvements regardless. Here are some of the mental benefits you could see from NoFap:

  • Overall better happiness and acceptance,
  • More profound respect and appreciation for your lover(s),
  • Lessens your stress and anxiety,
  • Increased motivation and willpower.

Here are some physical improvements people have seen due to NoFap:

  • Higher energy levels,
  • Overall improvement in sleep,
  • Stronger and more toned muscles,
  • Sharper concentration and focus,
  • Higher stamina and overall physical performance.

Although these are benefits that people have said to have experienced, there is a lot that is not backed by science, and it’s hard to say whether these are genuine improvements because of the NoFap lifestyle or whether it is a placebo effect.

Either way, even if it is a placebo, is that really such a bad thing? Research has proven that a placebo effect still holds even when the person knows that it is only a placebo, so either way, it looks like there could be benefits all around.

Remember, as we said, some of these “benefits” are not proven and are usually based on certain peoples experiences when trying the NoFap lifestyle and not based on actual scientific results.

Downsides to not Masturbating

Many experts say that self-pleasuring is beneficial for your health in general, and there are many proven physical and mental benefits to masturbating, for example:

  • Improvements and stabilisation in mood,
  • Relieves stress and anxiety,
  • Improves sleep quality,
  • Calms down period pains,
  • It can even lower your risk of prostate cancer.

If you are still interested in NoFap but are concerned about the downsides to not masturbating, then don’t worry!

There are no specific medical or health risks to not masturbating, so if you want to give the NoFap life a try, then go ahead and try it out!

Just be careful to not fall into the mindset that masturbation is somehow “bad” or “evil”. There are abstinence groups and believers out there that will warp your view of masturbating and make it out to be something that you shouldn’t do, which is simply not true.

NoFap is a lifestyle choice, and you can choose when you stop or start at any point.

Speak to a Health Professional

You should always be aware that NoFap isn’t a proven cure for any medical issues like erectile dysfunction or low testosterone.

If you experience either of these, please make sure you speak to a medical professional. You should seek medical advice if you experience:

  • Premature ejaculation,
  • Changes in libido levels,
  • Pain during sex,
  • Any kind of sexual dysfunction.

The same goes for your mental health. Whether you NoFap or not, your mental health is very important.

So if you are feeling depressed or unmotivated, experiencing anxiety or hopelessness, or if you have compulsive or sexual impulses, then go and speak to a mental health professional before trying out the NoFap technique.

If this is the case, there are other options available to help with your sexual, mental, or physical health. These options could include finding a psychologist to talk to about your mental health or speaking to a sex therapist to improve and help your physical, sexual health.

To Fap or NoFap That is the Question?

Masturbation has, throughout the years, proved to have many health benefits, from lowering blood pressure to even reducing your risk of type 2 diabetes!

But going the no-touch way and trying out the NoFap lifestyle has had many benefits that, although not scientifically proven, have helped many people. There is even a whole community built around it now!

So to Fap or Not to Fap? Well, that question. At the end of the day, it is up to you; there are benefits on either end, and depending on your overall health, it may even be the change in your life that you need.

So weigh up all of your options and do your research because whether you wank or not is entirely down to you and what is best for your health.
